SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN ADDICTIVE DRUG
In the ’60s, it was marijuana and LSD.
In the ’70s, it was marijuana and cocaine.
In the ’80s, it was cocaine.
In the ’90s, it was ecstasy.
In the 2000s, it is opioids, ecstasy, and social media.
Starting from 2004, social media increasingly became the drug of choice. Touchscreen portable devices made social media ubiquitous with high “penetrance” and affordability.
With social media algorithms acting as an alliance between cocaine and opioids, the entire population became ensnared. The opioid part lured you in, and the cocaine part kept you in and high. The billionaire owners were unsatisfied and needed more audiences for more revenue.
Children and adolescents were hooked. Algorithms led to suicides, body image dysfunction, love fraud, monetary fraud, and deliberate amplification of false news to enhance income, disregarding the effects on individuals, societies, and countries.
Algorithms exploited weaknesses in—
Control through algorithms
Ensnare and manipulate the
Gullible
Depressed
Unamorous
Lonely
Mentally challenged
Vulnerable
Rejected
The Gullibles kept amplifying and
Distributing posts or content
The depressed experienced cocaine high
By continually reading/viewing fabrications
The unamorous found fake love that
Bilked them of thousands of dollars
The lonely found artificial friends
Without the human touch of friendship
The mentally challenged kept
Reading/viewing inane content that
Did not enhance their intellect
The vulnerable were trafficked and the
Rejected found false friendships
All because of Section 238
That absolved social media companies
Of all the harm inflicted on society
By harboring and amplifying injurious content
A new law banning engineered Algorithms
Shall save social media and humanity
