A DANGEROUS PRECEDENT.
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a dangerous precedent for governance in Nigeria by governing Nigeria as a Northern Colony. He has Northernized the Armed Forces, the Police, the Civil Service, Parastatals, Public Corporations, Advisers, Federal Executive Council, and Foreign Aid. Will begging be next?
The President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim just disclosed that Buhari aka Jubrin instructed him not to site any World Bank project in Southern Nigeria. The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde at a separate news conference advised Buhari to invest in human capital. He was indirectly advising Buhari to invest in the South. The human capital developed in the South will then develop the entire nation.
Using World Bank Funds to develop grazing areas in the North for foreign Fulani herdsmen will not develop Nigeria. Eighty percent of Indians do not eat beef and India is a world technological power. The greatest Indian export to the world especially America is human capital. Some of these exports after acquiring Western knowledge and technology return to India to invest in India’s development.
Nigerian beggars are worried as Buhari plans to restrict begging on the streets to Northern Nigeria. The Nigerian Association of Beggars are geared up to fight this policy. More worrisome is that future Presidents of Nigeria will take a cue from Buhari and restrict development to their states of origin. Will towns of origin be next? If Buhari can do a region, why not a state or town?
Nigeria will never be the same after Buhari’s “democratic dictatorship.” What a caricature of leadership!
