RISING US HEALTHCARE COSTS, IS IT COMPETENCE, COMPENSATION, OR CONFIDENCE?

RISING US HEALTHCARE COSTS, IS IT COMPETENCE, COMPENSATION, OR CONFIDENCE?

Healthy twenty-year old, no underlying health conditions,
Has the sniffles, cough, aches, coryza, and low grade fever.
Doctor orders a corona-scan, CAT scan of head, and whole body x-ray.
Why — is it incompetence, need for compensation, or lack of confidence?

Next, prescribe cough syrup, antibiotics, and i.v. immunoglobulins.
Advise a fifth booster of the Covid-22 vaccine, quarantine the patient,
And notify the CDC-P of a new variant of the coronavirus.
Why — is it incompetence, need for compensation, or lack of confidence?

Competence means being able to diagnose using the current body of knowledge.
Confidence means being able to stand by your diagnosis without superfluous testing.
Compensation means discarding competence and confidence to run up the bill.
Competent, confident physicians must be adequately compensated to reduce US medical expenditures by reducing superfluous testing.
