502 DEAD IN NIGERIA
The current coronavirus pandemic has killed 502 persons in Nigeria, according to the NCDC (Nigerian Centre For Disease Control). Persons previously thought to have succumbed to the coronavirus were discovered to have died of hunger. Of the 502 deaths, only two were killed by Covid-19, the rest by hunger!
This is not surprising since Nigeria is the hunger capital of the world.
The irrational, indiscriminate, and irresponsible quarantine of all commercial activities, including food supply, delivery, and distribution by the incompetent Federal and State Governments have aggravated the hunger situation in Nigeria.
The WHO estimates that while Covid-19 may kill 10 Nigerians, 379,000 shall succumb to hunger.
The WHO hereby urges the responsible authorities to open up food supply, delivery, and distribution while observing social distancing or immediately commence home delivery of food to all Nigerians.
The situation is indeed dire.
