USING GOD’S NAME TO BEG
One day, I had stopped at a red light at a busy intersection. That intersection is a favorite hangout for beggars euphemistically called panhandlers. One of them walked to my car and I cracked the window a little.
Beggar: “Good morning, sir.”
Me: “Good morning to you too, and how are you doing?”
Beggar: “Thank you sir, I am jobless and need help.”
Me: “How much do you need?”
Beggar: “Whatever God tells you to give me.”
Me: “Well, God just told me not to give you any money?”
The beggar was flummoxed and stood by my car transfixed like a statue. The name of God is almost always used to attract sympathy but this time it backfired. I believe that this beggar will think twice before next invoking the name of God while begging.
