HOW TO SQUANDER ONE BILLION DOLLARS IN NIGERIA.

HOW TO SQUANDER ONE BILLION DOLLARS IN NIGERIA.

Corner a $1 billion national telephone modernization program
By compromising the awarding military authorities.
Procure obsolete discarded telephone equipment
From dumpsters in America and elsewhere.

Use bulk of contract to sponsor naming and birthday parties
All over the country, long overdue for telephone modernization.
Bribed Citizens overlook loss of functional landlines,
Now replaced by phone effigies, doubling as relics.

Citizens proclaim Contractor as “Savior.”
“Savior” or Destroyer of functioning telephone landlines?
Citizens pacified by financial inducements,
Buy the “Savior” nonsense buoyed by the press.

Alas, the “Savior” also owns a major media outlet,
That exaggerates his “philanthropic” bribes.
How can one who could not modernize telephone landlines,
Save the political system of a diverse and difficult nation?

“Savior” runs and wins National elections for the Presidency
“Savior’s” military allies fully aware of his antecedents
Deny “Savior” his victory by annuling the election and
Recipients of “Savior’s” philanthropy protest annulment.

Welcome to Nigeria where the absurd becomes
Accepted norms of behavior in all spheres of human endeavors.
And sane behavior is dismissed as stinginess.
Stinginess that would have modernized the country’s landlines.
