NIGERIA’S DSS (DEPARTMENT OF STATE SECURITY OR DEPARTMENT OF SELECTIVE SAVAGERY)
The Nigerian security outfit named the DSS appears to be an extrajudicial strike force that operates outside the law. They have been known to barge into schools during school hours and beat up teachers on the flimsiest of excuses. The DSS can arrest you for “looking bad eye” at a government official. If you are well connected and you are owed 20 Naira by a groundnut seller, the DSS can arrest the groundnut seller.
In fact, the DSS can arrest you, keep you incommunicado, flaunt all court orders and nothing happens.
Maybe the name should be changed to SS (Schutzstaffel) or Gestapo since it serves the Presidency and not the Nigerian people. The National Assembly should initiate moves to abolish the money-draining agency that serves no useful purpose.
Their functions should be taken over by the Police Force and the money saved used to improve the compensation of serving and retired policemen. Well-paid Police Officers are less likely to engage in corrupt practices such as extortion, intimidation, pay for play, and other nefarious activities.
Having too many specialized and non-cooperative police-type agencies such as the EFCC, DSS, ICPC, CCB, and “PWD” are avenues for enriching individuals without the affecting probity of the nation’s polity. That is, agencies purportedly created for fighting corruption become avenues for corruption.
Africastallestman wants an end to this political rascality.
CCB – Code of Conduct Bureau.
EFCC – Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
ICPC – Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.
PWD – People Witholding Department.
